How to accept your weaknesses

One of the beauties of being alive is that nobody is perfect. We all have shadows and it’s ridiculous to believe otherwise.

We now know that to be successful we should focus on amplifying our strengths. There is endless evidence to show that the best actors, sportsmen, musicians and business leaders have done just that. Brad Pitt recently shared his journey from the dark into the light: “For me this period has been about looking at my weaknesses and failures and owning my side of the street.” To be whole, balanced and happy we must also learn to accept our dark sides.

On a piece of paper list all the things you love about yourself. Be positive, smile and just free flow. When you are spent, list all the things that you hate opposite. It should feel cathartic. Once you have scraped the barrel, take a breath and soak it all up.

Read both of the lists and engage with the emotions that they produce. Spend as long as you need to.

When you learn to love those failings as much as your strengths, you will feel lighter, happier and ready to shine more brightly every day. Stop beating yourself up, embrace your dark side and feel free.
